He Is

“Every word of God is tried: He is a shield unto them that take refuge in him.”

Proverbs 30:5

They said the Titanic was “practically unsinkable” in 1912, but we all know what happened. It was untested, but it was a spectacular ship, unlike any other in history. “One of the largest and most luxurious passenger liners at the time, the Titanic, was also equipped with watertight compartments, which led many to consider the ship unsinkable; an anonymous deckhand famously claimed that “God himself could not sink this ship.” On April 14, however, the ship struck an iceberg, and early the next day it sank. Some 1,500 people perished.” . Gone are the lives of many on that maiden voyage, all lost on the account of the unseen. If they would have know the fate of this great ship, do you think anyone would have gone aboard?  They had every reason to believe they would have a safe voyage.

Many go through life feeling unstoppable, unbeatable, and surely unsinkable. Many will put their faith in their youth, power, riches, or wisdom. The truth is certain though; as the Hebrew writer said, “And inasmuch as it is appointed unto men once to die, and after this cometh judgment ” (Heb. 9:27). It is better that we come to the realization of this sooner than later. We could certainly live a life that is based on the only certainty in life. That God is; He just is. For it is written, “and without faith it is impossible to be well-pleasing unto him; for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him” (Hebrews 11:6). God is who he is, and that is something that we can take great joy

He is Creator, Savior, Redeemer, Friend, Father, Healer, Comforter, and Deliverer. He is Everlasting, Enduring, Longsuffering, and a Warrior. He is Jehovah, The Lord of Heaven and Earth. Every word of God is tried, not as the boasting of a man trying to sell out a maiden voyage. There is no hubris in His claim. He just is. His Word was in the beginning.  He is a shield to all who find their refuge in Him. Those who have lost life, family, possessions, and lifestyles for His sake will not be forgotten; they will not be brought to shame. Let us set our hope only in the Lord.

Grace and Peace,
